A Very Fine Regency Campaign Writing Box in Brazilian Rosewood, England Circa 1815
The highly figured & brass bound rosewood case having a hinged top with a detachable lectern bar, opening to a fitted interior and two gilt tooled leather writing panels. Both panels bearing handwritten notations in old script on their undersides, lifting open to reveal twin recessed document compartments - one housing three concealed & spring-activated ’secret’’ drawers.
The base retains its original functioning lock mechanism with an associated key, together with a hinged brass arm that supports the top when used as a reading lectern, both sides of the base retaining original flush-mounted brass carrying handles - one affixed to a single drawer.
In fine overall condition and exhibiting exceptional graining, colour & patina, with a fine French-polished finish.
Dimensions, 7.25" high x 20" wide x 10.75" deep.
