An Exceptional 19th Century Renaissance Revival Austrian Silver Sugar Casket
An exceptionally fine 19th century ‘Renaissance Revival’ silver sugar casket, showing a hinged lid richly decorated with repousse & hand chased foliate motifs centred by a winged putto-shaped finial, opening over a conforming architectural inspired base retaining its original lock mechanism and exhibiting a partially gilded interior surface. The exterior of the base profusely decorated with panels of repousse & hand chased floral & foliate motifs, putti etc., with all four corners featuring figural elements cast in the form of maidens & cavaliers mounted within recessed grottos, raised overall upon embossed petal shaped supports. The lid bearing impressed Vienna town mark & silver mark denoting .800 silver fineness and date mark for 1867, the surface of the lock plate also stamped with Vienna silver marks & makers marks (unknown).
In fine overall condition, with some pitting to the interior surface of the base. Dimensions, 5.5” high x 5.5/8” wide x 4” deep.
